An electric car isn't just a quiet automatic. It accelerates differently, brakes differently, and every brand hides its controls in a different place. A driver who's only ever driven petrol can get an EV home — but not always smoothly, and not always gently on the car.

One-pedal driving & regen braking

This is the single biggest difference between an EV and a petrol car. Lift off the accelerator in a strong-regen EV and it slows down hard — sometimes almost to a stop — recovering energy back into the battery.

A driver who isn't used to it does one of two things: brakes too late and jerky, or coasts and rides the friction brakes like a petrol car. Neither is comfortable, and neither is how the car is meant to be driven. Our drivers modulate the accelerator and regen smoothly, so the ride is comfortable for you and easy on the car — and, as a bonus, it puts a little charge back in.

Instant torque, smooth control

EVs deliver full power the instant you press the pedal. It's addictive to drive, but it also means a heavy foot gives passengers whiplash and drains range fast. We drive with a smooth right foot — no jackrabbit starts, no drama — which keeps the cabin calm and the battery going further.

Every EV's controls are different

Getting an EV moving isn't always obvious, and fumbling it in a dark carpark is exactly what you don't want from a driver. We take a moment to read the car:

• Gear selection — a Tesla column stalk (or the screen), a BYD rotary dial, a Mercedes stalk, buttons on others.
• No start button — many EVs simply go when you're in with the key card or phone; there's nothing to "start."
• Keyless access — card, phone or fob, plus walk-away locking that catches out the unfamiliar.
• Drive modes & creep — regen strength, creep on/off and comfort/sport modes change how the car feels; we set them sensibly.

Range & charge — we won't leave you stranded

Tell us if the battery is low when you book. We check the range before setting off and plan the route accordingly — we will never run it flat or leave you short. We drive your EV home; we don't need to charge it, unless that's something you arrange with us in advance.
